Milk Snake : Can You Think Of Keeping Them As Pets?

Can you imagine having a snake as pet? If you are an exotic pet lover and searching for an uncommon pet, snake may be right choice for you. But all species of snakes are not good as pets. I am going to let you know about milk snake- considered to be a good pet.

Housing
The first and foremost requirement is a secured enclosure. Make sure that the length of enclosure is minimum 2/3 rd of your snake’s length. For proper housing, you need various things including shallow water dish, substrate for the cage, hiding places, and artificial branches. Hiding places are necessary because these snakes feel safe when hide. But be careful while using substrate as these snakes love to burrow. You can use Aspen shavings instead.
Maintenance
It’s very easy to care for milk snakes. For juvenile snakes, you need to feed after every 4-5 days. Adults require food every 7-10 days. To maintain good pet health, make sure to maintain good humidity level in the cage.
Feeding
For these snakes, pre-killed frozen items are recommended. You can easily find it on pet stores.

Earlier, pet shops were the sole option and choice for those who wished to own pets. But, with the passage of time, many new options came into focus. One such option is pet adoption centers. They are considered much better option than buying pets form pet shop because of many reasons. Some of the major reasons are;

Variety that the pet adoption centers offer in pets is not found in the pet stores. Especially, if you want to adopt different types of pets, you would find a great variety of all kinds of pets there.

Unlike pet shops, where they are kept carelessly, pets in the pet adoption centers are kept with great care, all their feeding requirements are met in the best manner, and all efforts are made to keep them healthy. So, if you would adopt pet from pet adoption centers he/she would surely be healthy.
Groomed Pets
Pets adoption centers are a better option than pet stores because, if you would adopt a pet form some there, he or she would be already groomed and trained whereas, if you would buy it from some pet shop you would have to spend considerable time in grooming the pet which might even annoy or irritate you sometimes. So, to adopt pet from some pet adoption centers would surely be a much better option as compared to buying pets from some pet store.

Housing: You have many options for housing. In market, you will find different types of cages and tanks for your lizard. Using creativity, you can build one at home also. It is preferred to impart some natural look to the cage. It will make the reptile feel comfortable.
Usually 20 gallon aquarium is sufficient for younger ones and 40 gallon for adults. Use of glass on the cage is not preferable as it stops air circulation.
Feeding
Bearded dragons can eat both; plant and animal matter. But make sure to cut its food in small pieces. Usually, it’s recommended that pieces should be smaller than space between its two eyes. If pieces are bigger, it can create hind leg paralysis and your pet will suffer terribly.
You can offer crickets (to baby and juvenile) two-three times a day. But if it stops eating, don’t force it to eat. Younger lizards can have 30-50 crickets a day.
Adult ones can be provided with prey items also including cockroaches, mealworms, locusts and earthworms. Don’t feed them on the insects you catch in your backyard. These insects may be poisonous and may kill your beardie.
So, if you bring a bearded dragon, take care it properly to keep it happy and healthy.
